Personal Records, or PR’s, are representations of completing a task that you have NEVER done before.
Read that part again: completing a task that you have NEVER done before.
That is pretty big stuff. Huge in fact.
PR’s are usually the accumulation of many hours of hard work, tedious preparation, and an unfailing desire to succeed.
As such, they are hard to come by.
Do you remember your first pull-up? First 400lb dead-lift? First box jump? First time you swung the kettle-bell overhead?
Do you remember all the hard work it took to get to that point?
Good. Now don’t forget it cause I’m about to blow your mind…ready? Here it goes:
PR’s don’t happen every time you’re in the box!
They shouldn’t.
In fact, if they do, I’ll bet my ownership of CrossFit For Glory that you didn’t push hard enough the previous time.
The simple fact is that the necessary adaptations (be them strength, power, coordination, flexibility, endurance, etc) that produce true PR’s don’t develop overnight. They rarely even develop over a week.
Achieving a new PR in anything we do is a big deal. So hold onto that feeling and use it to drive you to the next PR. Just don’t EXPECT it to take place the next time you do that movement.
We produce results here. But they demand two things: a LOT of hard work and time.
After all, how many new tasks in your life outside the box are something that you’ve never done before?
