Stephanie Utroska - Head Coach

My name is Stephanie and I’m very excited that you’re here checking out CrossFit for Glory! My health and fitness journey began many years ago as a young athlete. My background in sports growing up included gymnastics, dance, cheerleading, basketball, volleyball, softball, flag football and track. My father was in the Army, so that’s what brought us here to the Fishhawk area in 2003. I was in the first graduating class at Newsome high school, which was such a wonderful environment that nurtured my love for sports and community.I attended Florida State University where I earned a degree in Early Childhood Education.

This lead to a nine year teaching career, where I taught 2nd grade for 3 years then 6 years at the high school level. While teaching Health and Physical Education at Newsome, I found a passion for coaching team sports as the Assistant Volleyball Coach and Head Flag Football coach. It was during this time that I became an active member of CrossFit for Glory and the doors of opportunity opened for me.I became a CrossFit coach, facilitated productive strength and conditioning programs, competed in local CrossFit competitions and am now an avid weightlifter, competing in local and state meets.

On top of all that, I met my life partner at CFG and have made friendships with so many wonderful people. I feel extremely blessed to work, train and grow in the CrossFit for Glory community. As Head Coach, and as a member, my goals are to help everyone who walks through our doors realize their potential, enjoy their fitness journey, and live a happy and healthy life!

Jim Buchholz - Coach

Being a competitive athlete is far from foreign to me. Starting soccer at the age of 5, I grew to desire the competitive nature of sports and excelled at them not only in high school but through club teams as well. I’ve played competitive sports since, including football, lacrosse, and hockey and continued with individual sports in snowboarding, surfing, and wake boarding. Not only did I find playing these sports a huge place in my life but teaching them as well. I became an assistant hockey coach for a local NY team and opened my own wakeboard camp in 2003.

I went to the University of Scranton and studied chemistry where I was able to understand the foundation of most nutraceutical products and continued my life working as a chemist and keeping sports as a main focus in my life.

In 2011 I was introduced to CrossFit and have been hooked since. The great community, hard workouts, and intense competition has brought CrossFit as a main outlet and source of fun in an extremely busy schedule. In 2012 I received my CrossFit L1 and have been coaching since. I pride myself on helping others reach their goals in not only the sport but also by nutritional means.

Lowell Patterson - Coach

Hello everyone. My name is Lowell Patterson, but I am often referred to by most kids as “Coach P.” I am a lifelong sport enthusiast and educator. Throughout my life sports and active living have always played a very important part of my development and later the development of other athletes. As a child I participated in sports year round playing baseball, soccer, and football. When I entered high school I decided to try other sports as well where I went on to letter in wrestling, track, and football. I worked my way through college as a life guard and swimming instructor. During college I continued to participate in intramural sports for my fraternity, helping them to win several IM championships. Upon graduation I began teaching school and in the last 22 years have continued to stay active participating in adult softball, volleyball, flag football, working on a struggling golf game and running in 5k and adventure races such as the Tough Mudder and Savage races.

My coaching experience began when I was in college as an assistant high school volleyball coach and flag football coach. After graduation I began teaching and coached middle school volleyball, teaching tennis and assisting with track. When I had my own kids and they started playing sports I stepped away from the school coaching to have the opportunities to coach my own children in the variety of sports they participated in including softball, baseball, flag football and lacrosse.

Over the last 6 years I have had the privilege of training athletes in speed, agility, and quickness as the head trainer for Megasports. I also worked as a performance trainer for the FishHawk Soccer Club for two years and was the conditioning coach for the Coyotes Lacrosse boy’s middle school program. During that time I worked with youth, high school and college athletes to develop each individual player’s overall athletic performance. A strong focus was put on improving their game skills through the sessions focusing on each individual’s goals and abilities, thereby helping them reach their top potential.

Following some injuries and an extensive two year break from participating in sports I decided to give CrossFit a chance. Thanks in part from some encouraging from several CFG members that are friends it was a great decision. I tried it and much like the rest of you got hooked! I enjoy challenging myself and seeing and feeling the results that follow every WOD. I enjoy the camaraderie between members and I am excited to begin working alongside you as well as instructing the youth of the sport.

Margaret Clark - Coach

My interest in sports and fitness began when I was young and continued on into middle and high school where I played basketball for my high school team. I received my degree from the College of Charleston, worked for Delta Airlines for 10 years and became a military spouse and a mother of two girls who both are competitive gymnasts. Many years were spent moving and traveling but through all the changes in my life, I have always been able to take my love of fitness with me.

It was in Newport, RI in 2009 where I discovered my love for CrossFit. I had always been active. I enjoyed running and lifting, but CrossFit gave me the intensity in my workouts, friendly competition and camaraderie I missed from playing team sports. I was drawn to the high intensity, and diversity of the workouts. I moved to Tampa in 2010 where my passion for CrossFit and interest in helping others achieve their fitness goals led me to getting my CrossFit Level 1 certification in 2012.

I spent 2 years coaching CrossFit classes and in the fall of 2014 joined CrossFit For Glory. In addition to my CrossFit level 2 certification I also hold a USA Weightlifting coaches certification as well as the Crossfit gymnastics trainer certification. Besides coaching, I also work as an office manager in a nearby preschool. I enjoy sharing my passion for CrossFit with others and am thankful that it provides me an opportunity to learn and grow as an athlete and coach.

Marc Zatkiewicz - Coach

Hey everyone! I’m Marc Zatkiewicz, but everyone calls me Marc Z. I’m a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer here at CrossFit for Glory and I’m also pursuing a degree in Exercise Science at the University of South Florida.
My story is a bit different in that I never played any competitive sports growing up. When I moved to Florida in the Summer of 2006, I wasn’t able to find the drive to play team sports (or any sport). What I was able to find was the fun that video games provided me, and that’s a hole I lived in through middle school and the early part of high school. It wasn’t until the summer following my Freshman year of high school (2012) where my best friend approached me and convinced me to purchase a membership at the local 24-hour gym in the area. I stayed consistent at the 24-hour gym until CrossFit entered my life.

My mom had been a member of CrossFit for Glory for a few months before the October of 2013 when she finally convinced me to try a class out. The old location was in a warehouse that didn’t have any A/C, and I remember the humidity bogging me down during my first class…and I loved it. I loved getting my butt kicked. I was immediately hooked. I officially began at CFG in December of 2013.

After graduating high school in 2015, I went away to the University of Central Florida for a year before I decided to come back home and pursue coaching at CrossFit for Glory while continuing my education at USF. I received my Level 1 Certificate in June of 2016 and began coaching the next October, three years after I had first tried CrossFit. Above all, coaching, along with being a member at CFG, has allowed me to hone my public speaking skills and form relationships with people who I can confidently call my best friends and family. I’ve truly found a passion in teaching others and helping people reach goals they had previously thought were impossible.

    Andrew Edlund - Coach

I am an on-the-water trained former competitive collegiate rower and an all-around rowing geek. I have always been drawn to sports where the objective is to learn a specific movement and practice that movement to reach maximum efficiency and effectiveness. I have never really been too interested in team sports where the objective is to get a ball into a goal. As a child, I dabbled in Baseball and Soccer but neither really grew into a passion for me. My first real interest in sports was when I competed in High School Track & Field, in the Shot Put and Discus events. My love for the single movement sport was born.
My passion for rowing was sparked when I sat in a shell (boat) for first time freshman year at SUNY Maritime College in ’95. The rowing bug bit me then and I have been infected ever since.

I rowed my 4 years of college and was an Assistant Coach my last year. Since graduating in ’00, I have satisfied my rowing fix on my Concept2 rower grinding it out in my garage and more recently, recreationally on the water with local rowing clubs here in the Tampa area.

I haven’t found an activity to rival my passion for rowing until I started at CrossFit for Glory in summer of ‘14. Rather than learning and practicing one specific movement, such as the rowing stroke, I found that CrossFit offers countless movements to practice and improve upon. Because of my interest in the single movement sports, I’m somewhat of a stickler for form and technique rather than speed and being on top of the leaderboard. I believe the speed will come with progress in the technique.

Since being known as “The Rowing Guy” and happily sharing my love for the rowing stroke with whomever asks for pointers and tips on how to better their stroke, I decided to make it official and become a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and Concept2 certified coach.

Since I am an on-the-water trained rower who has come into the CrossFit world, I have noticed countless similarities with the movements taught at the box compared to what I learned 20 years ago in the boat. I plan to take those similarities and reverse it to take your knowledge of CrossFit and translate it into the rower.
